July 21 – Aug. 15: Northbound I-5 two-lane reduction across Ship Canal Bridge.
Aug. 15 – Aug. 18: Full northbound I-5 closure from I-90 interchange to Northeast 45th Street.

This summer will see two full closures of I-5 North from I-90 to NE 45th Street. The first full closure will happen July 18 – 21, and the second full closure from August 15-18. The four weeks between these two full closures will also see I-5 Northbound reduced to two lanes. During the northbound closures and lane reductions, the express lanes will run 24/7 in the northbound direction.
These closures are to repair and resurface the upper bridge deck, replace concrete and aging bridge expansion joints, improve drainage, and address other maintenance issues. This work is a part of the Revive I-5 project which will take place over the next two years, ending in 2027.
Transportation Services strongly recommends that UW staff, faculty, and students use their U-PASS to take public transit or choose alternate modes and routes to reduce traffic during these closures and lane reductions.
