Transit service changes begin Aug. 29

King County Metro and Sound Transit will make major service changes beginning Saturday, Aug. 29. Changes include new and revised routes, expanded morning, evening and weekend service, Metro Flex pilots, and new connections to Link light rail.

Several changes will directly affect UW riders:

  • Route 372 will be discontinued. The current direct connection between UW Seattle and UW Bothell will no longer be available. New Route 72 will connect the UW Seattle campus and U District with Lake City and Shoreline South/148th Station. Riders traveling farther north can connect with revised Sound Transit Route 522 or Route 331 for service to UW Bothell. New Route 77 will also connect the U District, Roosevelt, Lake City and Bitter Lake.
  • Route 271 will be discontinued. New Route 270 will maintain direct service between downtown Bellevue and the University District. Riders traveling from Eastgate or Issaquah may need to use Routes 203 or 220, Sound Transit Route 556, or Link light rail and transfer for service to UW.
  • Sound Transit Route 586 will be discontinued. Direct bus service between Tacoma, Federal Way and the University District will end. Riders can use the Sounder S Line or ST Express Routes 577 and 590-series to reach downtown Seattle, then transfer to Link light rail for service to UW or the U District. Sounder operates a limited weekday schedule, so riders should review their options before traveling.

Other UW-related changes include:

  • Sound Transit Route 556 will end in downtown Bellevue instead of continuing to the University District. Service will increase to every 15 minutes, with connections to the 2 Line.
  • Sound Transit Route 522 will connect with Link at Shoreline South/148th Station instead of Roosevelt Station and will operate every 15 minutes.
  • Route 45 will no longer be paired with Route 75 and will begin and end at UW Medical Center.

Riders should use Metro’s Trip Planner and select a travel date of Aug. 29 or later to preview their new trip. Allow additional time during the first weeks of the change, particularly if your trip will now require a transfer.
