General information
The South Campus Garage will be undergoing extensive construction work starting June 2, with impacts beginning as soon as May 28 and continuing throughout this summer. The work will address active water intrusion and material degradation that pose long‑term structural, operational, and safety risks.
This work will include:
Repairing deteriorated concrete
Replacement of failing expansion joints and joint sealants
Upgrading the waterproofing membrane
New traffic coatings to protect exposed areas in lots S01 and S02.
Phasing information
To facilitate continued use of the garage during construction the work will be divided into 3 phases with one-third of the garage being closed during each phase, on all levels.
Parking during construction
With about two-thirds the capacity of each level usable during construction, there will be some temporary changes to the use of the garage. Permit holders can expect communications directly from Transportation Services about how their use may be affected during this time, however we've also included some general information below for most permit types.
Visitor, retiree and out-of-area parking will not be available in the South Campus Garage through the duration of the work.

Visitor parking is not available in the south campus garage during construction. Please use one of the following alternatives:
GENERAL VISITOR PARKING (Non-Hospital / Non-Surgery Visits):
Please use one of the visitor parking lots: W24 (6am-3pm), W28, E19, E20, or E21.
RESTRICTED VISITOR PARKING GARAGES:
Triangle Garage – UW Medical Center Hospital and Dentistry patients & visitors ONLY.
Surgery Pavilion Garage – Surgery patients and their visitors ONLY."
A portion of all S03 PPUP users will be reassigned to park in another lot for the duration of the project. If you have a S03 PPUP permit, please check your inbox for an email from Transportation Services informing you if you have been reassigned, and if so to which nearby lot, either E12 or Portage Bay Garage.
The construction parking impacts were presented to South Campus stakeholder departments, who collaborated with Transportation Services to develop a coordinated approach for reallocating parking during construction. Departments have elected to temporarily reassign departmental S03 PPUP permits using a last‑in, first‑out method based on allocation reductions.
All affected permit holders will be guaranteed a return to S03 upon project completion.
S03 Night PPUP users will remain assigned to S03 as a night permit holder, however the lot may sometimes still fill up – in case it does, you have been given overflow parking access to use E12 or Portage Bay Garage.
SOV permit holders will remain assigned to S02. However if S02 lot fills up, S02 permit holders will be given access to overflow parking for the duration of the project in S01 and S03, as well as Portage Bay Garage and E12.
To access gated overflow parking, such as in S03, swipe your husky ID to obtain access in and out.
Throughout construction currently sold S02R permits will be retained, although the location of the stalls will change:
- During Phases 1 and 2 all S02R stalls will be located near the UWMC hospital tunnel.
- In Phase 3, the S02R stalls will be temporarily relocated near the Dentistry tunnel.
Upon completion of construction, the S02R stalls will be restored to their original location.
A portion of SLU permits who utilize the South Campus Garage (SCG) will be reassigned to park in another lot for the duration of the project. Please check your inbox for an email from Transportation Services informing you if you have been reassigned to park in E12 or Portage Bay Garage.
Even if a user has not been reassigned, there is still a possibility the SCG will fill up at times. In case it does, you have been given temporary access to use E12 or Portage Bay Garage as well.
There will be a reduced number of motorcycle parking stalls in the South Campus Garage during this period:
- Phase 1 – 5 motorcycle stalls on S01
- Phase 2 – 13 motorcycle stalls on S02 and 5 motorcycle stalls on S01
- Phase 3 – 13 motorcycle stalls on S02
If a motorcycle user can’t find a stall in the south campus garage, overflow motorcycle parking is available in S05.
Permit holders assigned to the A02 bike house and the L23, L24, and L35 bike locker banks will be unable to access the house or their lockers during construction beginning at different times depending on the location inside the garage (see below for schedule details). Transportation Services will work with all permit holders affected to find alternative secure storage on campus.
Please review the bike parking options on our website and reach out to our Sales and Administration team in person at the Transportation Services offices or via email at ucommute@uw.edu to set up alternative bike parking.
If no action is taken, your permit will be partially refunded or prorated, depending on how you paid, for the remainder of the permit period. As a reminder, all bike products are set to expire June 30, 2026.
Additionally, all bike lockers will be demolished and replaced with new, steel Bluetooth-accessible and keyless bike lockers once all construction is completed (approximately August 2026). Existing Permit holders will receive an email from Transportation Services providing more information.

- L23 Bike Locker Bank – inaccessible during Phases 1-3 of construction
