South Campus Garage transition

The South Campus Garage, formerly known as S01, was divided into three parking areas on Nov. 1, 2023:

  • The top level, S01, remains available for visitor and accessible parking. 

  • The middle level, S02, is designated for parking permits such as Single Occupancy Vehicle (SOV) permits, Daily permits, reserved stalls and motorcycle parking. Accessible parking is also available.

  • The bottom level of the garage, S03, is gated for pay-per-use parking (PPUP) permits, with the gate arms lowering on January 16, 2024.
    Note: Motorcycle parking has been removed from S03. S05, a small lot next to the south gatehouse, has additional motorcycle parking.

These changes are a result of collaboration with the South Campus Transportation Committee. Adding PPUP permits to the South Campus Garage allows more people to park in the garage overall. PPUP has met great success across campus as it increased the number of customers able to park in each facility. 

Over time, the number of permits departments have available for employees based on real-time daily usage is expected to increase. This could mean as many as 600 additional permits based on the size of the lot and usage data. Additionally, this could alleviate the demand for parking in the Portage Bay Garage.

Please note: The active lot displayed on your permit may still show as "S01" because all three levels of the South Campus Garage originally fell under the S01 name. The active lot displayed on permits will soon match the newly renamed levels.

If you have already switched to an S03 pay-per-use parking (PPUP) permit, continue to take advantage of PPUP’s flexibility and cost savings. To use your S03 PPUP permit, please use either your Husky Card or AVI card at the gate. When using your Husky Card, swipe it at the gate reader when entering and exiting the lot. When using your AVI card attached to your windshield, it is important to slow down or stop when entering and exiting S03 so your AVI card can be detected by the card reader.

If you hold a Single Occupancy Vehicle (SOV) permit, your primary lot for parking should continue to be the second level of the garage (S02). The S03 gate arm will be lowered on January 16, 2024. If you are a S02 SOV permit holder, please follow the instructions sent to your email. 

Daily permit holders can continue to park on the second level of the garage, S02. Out of area parking sales are unavailable on the Customer Portal and are also unavailable for purchase at gatehouses.

Motorcycle permit holders who previously parked on the bottom level, S03, should park in S02 or S05. A02 Bike House permit holders are encouraged not to use the drive lane ramps for the garage.

If you have been planning to switch to a PPUP permit but haven’t done so yet, please reach out to your department parking coordinator. At this time only payroll deduction eligible employees with an existing SOV permit or Daily permit may switch to S03 PPUP. 

With a pay-per-use parking (PPUP) permit, parking fees are deducted from your paycheck at the end of each pay period. The less you park, the less you pay. You can also track your usage during the current pay perio online.

Night PPUP is a brand new product, available only in the S03 level of the South Campus Garage and valid during the hours of 4 p.m. - 8 a.m. only. See how Night PPUP compares to other available permit types in the table below.

*If you are parking in S03 with Night PPUP and arrive before 4 p.m., the gatearm will not lift. If you stay past 8 a.m., you will be charged an overage charge. The total will not exceed the daily PPUP parking rate.

FAQ

Can I have night PPUP and Regular/Day PPUP?

Due to the configuration of the University's parking software, multiple PPUP permits cannot be accommodated at the same time. However, you may purchase a combination of PPUP and Daily permits, for example, park during the day with Regular PPUP and use a Daily Night permit or vice versa—purchase a Daily permit and park at night using Night PPUP.

For medical staff with variable shifts, we recommend parking in the E lots via Daily permits and signing up for night PPUP in S03.

Do I need approval to purchase night permits in S02/S03?

No, approvals only apply to daytime permits in the South Campus Garage.

Please note:

Department approval will still be required for all permit types (except night permits) on the S02 and S03 garage levels.

  • If you are already approved for SOV or Daily Permits in S01/S02 and are interested in switching to PPUP, please reach out to your department’s parking coordinator. Our Sales & Administration team will work with you and your department on switching to S03 PPUP. 

  • Existing Eligible S01 SOV permit holders may receive email communication regarding how to save money by switching to PPUP.
