The N22 lot reopened Monday, October 7 after being closed since July 8 for construction work. The lot has been upgraded to comply with the most recent accessibility standards. Spaces in the new N22 lot are 8 feet wide in aisle width, where only 5 feet is required by ADA standards. This project used permeable concrete which is more environmentally friendly than conventional concrete and a first for a UW parking lot. To help facilitate this construction, vehicle and pedestrian traffic has been redirected as needed.

NEW: A new pedestrian detour around N22 is in effect as of Tuesday, October 1. As part of this detour, the bus stop on the west side of Stevens Way has been moved 100 feet north. In addition, traffic along Stevens Way will be reduced to one lane in front of the Communications Building between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. beginning Monday, October 14 for approximately two weeks.

How may this affect my commute?

Parking

If you currently park in N22, you should have been contacted by Transportation Services about the reassignment of your permit during the lot closure. If you have not been contacted yet or have further questions regarding parking on campus, please contact Transportation Services at (206) 221-3701 or at ucommute@uw.edu.

If you are a visitor and need accessible parking, stop by any gatehouse to obtain an accessible parking permit for the day and our gatehouse staff will direct you to an appropriate lot or garage.

Driving

Starting Monday, October 14 traffic will be reduced to one lane on Stevens Way in front of the Communications Building. There will be a police officer at the intersection of Stevens Way and Pend Oreille to help guide pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The one lane traffic reduction will occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is expected to last for two weeks.

Plan accordingly and factor in increased congestion time on Stevens Way during the construction.

Transit

The bus stop (stop #1533) near the Communications Building on the west side of Stevens Way was temporarily moved 100 feet to the north on October 1 and will remain there for approximately one month. The pedestrian detour map below shows the temporary bus stop location. Transit service schedules will not be affected by the temporary stop relocation.

Walking

While N22 is now open, one last pedestrian detour is still in effect as work continues on the pathways around it.
