W45 becomes a pay-per-use (PPUP) garage on March 1
The UW Tower is served by two garages, W45 on 11th Avenue NE and W46 on 12th Avenue NE. Effective March 1, the W45 garage will become a controlled access pay-per-use parking (PPUP) facility. Employees currently assigned to W45 will trade in their hang tags and ICTs for an AVI card that will allow automated entry for the gate arms. As a result of this change, some W45 permit holders may be moved to W46.
This change is intended to protect parking spaces for UW employees while giving them the flexibility to pay only for the parking they use. There is no change to the overall number of spaces available.
Only W45 permit holders will have access to this gated facility. Permit holders not assigned to W45 who have previously parked in this area when visiting the UW Tower must visit a campus gatehouse to obtain an out-of-area permit. The assignment for the out of area permit will be W46.
UW vehicles may enter the gated facility using the AVI tag attached to the vehicle windshield.
W46 remains open to visitors and out-of-area parking
The W46 garage is the one closest to the UW Tower and connected to it by a skybridge. W46 permit holders will still need to display their hang tags. After hours access will only be available with AVI. Visitors will continue to pay for parking at the existing machines on Ground Level and Level 4, adjacent to the elevator lobby. Permit holders not assigned to W46 must get an Out-of-area permit from a gatehouse to park in W46.
Entering and exiting the Tower garages
Both garages are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. After hours and on weekends, permit holders must use an AVI card to gain access. Intercom assistance is available at entrance gates between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. Intercom assistance at the exits is available 24/7.
- Vehicles may enter from either 11th Avenue NE or the alley between the garages.
- Exit is from the LLW level onto 11th Avenue NE only. There is no exit to the alley.
- The previous vehicle access bridge between W45 and W46 is now open only to pedestrians.
- After hours entry is on 11th Avenue only.
W46
- Vehicles may enter and exit from either 12th Avenue NE or the alley.
- Visitors can pay for parking by using the self-pay machines on Level 4 or by obtaining a permit from a gatehouse before entering the garage.
- After hours entry is on 12th Avenue only and an AVI card is required.
These modifications were made to better enhance the customer experience at UW Tower. With the changing environment of campus and the University District, these improvements will provide a smoother parking experience for visitors and employees now and in the future.
