Transportation Services welcomes feedback on the proposed parking rate options for FY21 at tsfeedback@uw.edu

Rates are not final until approved by the UW Board of Regents. Summaries of the public hearing held on Wednesday, January 29, and of feedback sent by email will be included in the presentation to the Board.

No rate increase is being proposed for the Employee U-PASS, which is currently $50/month or fully subsidized for some employees.

What parking rates cover and how they’re set

Parking spaces on the UW campus are limited as directed by the Campus Master Plan approved by the City of Seattle, in which the City and University agreed to encourage the use of carpooling, mass transit and other commuting options in order to reduce single occupancy vehicle trips to campus. The parking rate increase reflects market factors such as rising labor costs, the costs of goods and services in Seattle, and the ongoing need to pay for parking lot and garage maintenance. A significant portion of parking revenues also supports the U-PASS program and critical shuttle programs for the Seattle campus and neighboring medical facilities.

The 2020-21 rates are developed in cooperation with the University Transportation Committee, which is made up of student, staff, faculty and union representatives. The UW Board of Regents are currently set to address parking rates at their March 2020 meeting. If new rates are approved by the UW Board of Regents, they will be effective as of July 1, 2020.
