Some faculty and staff U-PASS holders have been experiencing issues recently while attempting to use local transit. This should be resolved by the end of the day on Wednesday, October 7.

In the meantime, you can do the following:

  • Explain to the driver or fare enforcement staff that you are a part of the UW U-PASS group that is getting their U-PASS reactivated. Transit agency partners and their staff have been informed of this issue.

  • Log into your MyUW account with your phone and click on the Accounts tab. You can show that your U-PASS Membership is current and use it as a “flash pass” for the driver.

Students with U-PASS issues are reminded that the Universal Student U-PASS has been deactivated for autumn quarter. Go to the U-PASS updates page for more information about this and other student transit options.

What happened

Every U-PASS needs to be tapped on an ORCA card reader within 60 days of issuance or renewal. Many U-PASS permits were renewed with the start of the fiscal year in July, but because most transit agencies were not collecting fare through the summer, most holders did not tap their U-PASS on a reader within the 60-day window.

Transportation Services is currently working on reactivating all affected U-PASSes and the issue should be resolved by the end of the day on Wednesday, October 7.

If you are still experiencing issues with your U-PASS after Thursday, October 8, please submit a request to reactivate your U-PASS online.
