The University of Washington has over 7,000 parking spaces distributed throughout the Seattle campus. Free bike racks can be found near every UW building and facility. In addition, some buildings have designated bike rooms inside. It's also possible to reserve space in one of our secure bike houses or an individual bike locker for a small annual fee.
Keeping your bike safe is important to us. Use a U-Lock, register your bike and follow these other best safety practices.
Do not attach your bike to a railing or a tree: Railings need to be kept clear to provide universal access for all users, and trees can be damaged. Bikes found secured to railings or trees will be impounded.
Bike racks
Covered and uncovered racks provide more than 7,800 spaces to park your bike. If racks at your destination are consistently full or you would like to suggest a new bicycle parking location, please email Transportation Services to request additional racks.
Transportation Services is not responsible for any damage or safekeeping of bicycles, and/or bicycle property, left at a bike rack, including those in bike houses and lockers.

Bike rooms
Several UW buildings have secure bicycle rooms for use by building occupants, and most residence halls provide bicycle storage in designated bicycle rooms. Access to bike rooms in non-residential buildings should be coordinated through that building's Building Coordinator. Access to residence hall bike rooms should be coordinated through Housing and Food Services or with the hall's front desk.

Transportation Services, Facilities Maintenance, and the UW Police Department work together to keep bike houses secure and accessible to permit holders. If you have found a bike house damaged, breached, or inaccessible with your Husky Card:
During business hours:
- Contact Transportation Services at 206-221-3701 or ucommute@uw.edu.
- A TS employee can assess damage and create a maintenance work ticket or open the inaccessible door.
- Report suspicious activity and stolen property to UWPD at 206-685-UWPD.
After business hours:
- If the bike house is damaged and needs to be secured. or is inaccessible: Contact Facilities Operations Maintenance Specialist (FOMS): 206-685-1411.
- Report suspicious activity and stolen property to UWPD at 206-685-UWPD.
- If paying for an emergency ride home, you may be eligible for a refund.
Transportation Services and the UW Police Department work together on bike security. You can help by following these best practices:
- Lock your bike with a U-Lock or other heavy-duty lock, not a flexible cable lock alone. Any lock can be defeated, but more than 95% of the bikes stolen on campus are those that were locked with a cable lock alone. Secure the lock through at least one wheel and the frame.
- Register your bike with UWPD on Bike Index — it only takes a few minutes!
- Remove lights and accessories that have a quick-release feature each time you park.
- Report suspicious activity and stolen bikes to UWPD at 206-685-UWPD. You can also call in anonymous tips to 206-685-TIPS.
Need a place to shower or change after an invigorating walk or bike ride to campus? Faculty and staff with IMA memberships and all students can use the shower facilities at the IMA and the Pavilion Pool. Call 206-543-4590 for details.
A few other buildings on campus also have shower and locker room facilities. Contact your building coordinator about the availability of facilities in your building.
