All parking gatehouses on the Seattle campus are closed and all parking enforcement activities are suspended until further notice. In most areas* previously controlled by card access, gate arms are raised. UW parking lots and garages should only be used by critical service employees and others with mandatory business needs related to the UW or the COVID-19 response.

This is a temporary measure as part of the University’s overall response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Restrictions continue in designated areas such as disabled parking spaces or fire lanes, and unauthorized vehicles parking there will be cited.

*The gate arms in W43 and W44 (Benjamin Hall) will remain closed for security reasons.

Impact on SOV permit holders

If you currently pay for a single occupancy vehicle (SOV) parking permit, we encourage you to keep doing so. This will ensure that you retain priority in your designated lot. It will also help Transportation Services continue to maintain the parking infrastructure that the University relies on.

If do not wish to pay for your permit and choose to cancel, it is important to note that you will need to purchase a new permit once regular parking operations resume. You will not be able to use the online Annual Renewal website and will instead need to visit the Transportation Services office in person once it opens. Additionally, if you currently park in a capacity-controlled lot, you will lose your priority access to that lot when you cancel and may not be able to purchase parking there again.

To cancel your SOV permit, please email ucommute@uw.edu with the subject line ‘Cancel SOV permit’ to assist us in addressing your request quickly:

  • Include your Employee ID number and a statement indicating you wish to cancel your permit and stop payroll deduction.
  • Mail your permit back to us:
    • UW Transportation Services
      Campus Box 355360
      1320 NE Campus Parkway
      Seattle, WA 98195
  • You will receive an email to confirm the cancelation of your permit and payroll deductions.
  • Cancelations will be completed as they are received and may take longer than a week to process.
  • Cancelations will be reflected on or after the April 25 pay check.
  • If you received a complimentary U-PASS with your permit, it will be canceled at the same time as the parking permit.
